What is liposuction?

Professionals in Non-Surgical liposuction procedures for both men & women Liposuction (also known as lipectomy, lipoplasty, liposculpturesuction or lipo) is a form of cosmetic surgery operation that is done to remove fat from parts of the body. These body parts can include the neck, arms, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, etc.

There is a limit as to how much fat a person can have removed in any one session of liposuction. This decision ultimately comes down to the surgeon in charge of the operation. Not every lipo operation is as successful as the patient intends. The amount of fat removed and the appearance of actual weight loss do not always coincide as a result of this procedure. A technique’s safety depends on the amount of fat that is to be removed as well as the patient’s health and the anaesthetic used (this could be regional, local or general anaesthesia).

To increase the chances of success in this operation, a patient should have stayed off things like alcohol and cigarettes for a number of months. The patient should also ensure that he/she is as fit as he/she possibly can be in the months leading up to the operation. It is important to be as healthy as possible for the operation to reduce the risk of other complications developing.

It is a complicated task to remove a large amount of fat from the body. A large amount of fat can be classified as above five litres. Liposuction is one of the most (if not the most) common type of plastic surgery performed. Women mostly have the operation on their arms, thighs, abdomen and buttocks while men mostly have the operation on their abdomen, chest and flanks.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction is not for everyone. At least, it is not easy for a person to qualify for a successful liposuction operation. It is easier and a lot safer to go on a diet and get into an exercise routine than to have a lipo operation.

Our team of laser liposuction Sydney experts will assess you but generally there are several factors that make a person a good candidate for liposuction. Some of these are listed below:

  • A person must be at least 18 years old to qualify for liposuction.
  • A person must be in good overall health.
  • A person must already be on a viable diet and exercise routine.
  • One must have pockets of fatty tissue in certain areas of the body.
  • A person must not have potential to develop certain diseases (such as diabetes, heart problems, infections, etc).

A person who has done (or plans on doing) a tummy tucking operation should not combine it with a liposuction operation of abdominal fat. Doing this only increases the risk of complications and/or death.

What is the laser liposuction technique?

There are a number of techniques of liposuction. These include the suction assisted liposuction, the ultrasound assisted liposuction, the power assisted liposuction, the external ultrasound assisted liposcupture, the water assisted liposcupture, the tumescent technique, sutures and the laser liposcupture technique.

The laser lypolysis is somewhat of a new technique. It does what traditional liposuction techniques couldn’t do. Unlike other techniques, laser lypolisis (which can be argued is different from liposuction entirely) is minimal in its invasiveness. It utilizes fibre-optic lasers at an array of wavelengths to produce heat that melts away body fat. This is where the difference with other laser lipo techniques comes in—there is no vacuum suction of body fat.

Laser lipolysis is more beneficial than other techniques in that it stimulates the production of collagen, tightening the skin so that the results of the procedure are better. Well over 2000 patients agreed to have research done on the results of their laser lipolysis operations over the course of three years. Those who did the research concluded that the average patient got rid of significant amounts of body fat (in various parts of the body) and also saw improved tautness of the skin. There were no major complications that arose from these laser lipolysis procedures. There were some minor bruising and pain complaints from some patients, but all were normal.
